Description:
Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW) is an extremely high abrasion resistant material with an extremely low coefficient of friction. While its characteristics resemble other types of polyethylene in general appearance – such as the texture, color, stiffness, and weight – UHMW is beyond compare in its superior physical and mechanical strength.
UHMW-PE has excellent chemical resistance, very low moisture absorption, and high impact strength. Other properties of this material include self-lubricating, crystalline melting point of 267°F (131°C), and meets USDA requirements in specific applications. UHMW-PE also meets FDA requirements for direct food contact and does not encourage growth of bacteria or fungus.
Applications:
Conveyor wear strips, bearings, pipe for distribution of slurry materials, snowmobile track sprockets, paper machine suction box covers, parts of textile looms, chute linings, guide rails, other components requiring maximum abrasion resistance, impact strength, and a low friction coefficient.
